Artist's Comments

I thought I needed to go into more detail since this dress won an honorable mention in a costume contest here.

I nearly lost my mind making this! It probably took me 3 months to make, and it weights about 5 pounds.

The bodice and the skirt are separate. The 2 pieces are held together with hooks and eye's. The bodice is stiff with boning sewn into it. I had to make the matching piping on around the bodice.

The ruffs are just folded ribbon sewn on flat ribbon.

The skirt is 2 complete layers sewn on one waistband.

To give the skirt the fullness, she wears a bum-roll and a hoop slip.

I absolutely adore this.

Awesome talent :)

looks like you spent lots of time on it, you should look into proper undergarments for the period too, would make it ten times more awesome than it is.

... one day at a party somebody handed me a cat, just a small cat, and I tried it. It wasn't bad, sort of pleasant in fact. So I had another, and then another, and then another....

Thanks, even though I lost my mind making it, it was worth making.

glad you liked it. I really considered making proper undergarments, maybe later

I guess I can take some credit for the lovely lady wearing it--she is my daughter. The colors do look good on her .

Making the ruffs was fun!

Ten pounds! Holy crap! I had a cloak that weighed 7 pounds and I could barely take it. (Well actually, it was too long and so it would soak up a lot of water, so that made it heavier)

Anyway. This looks fantastic. Awesome awesome awesome.
